RE: St Louis to Destin Fl

That was Mobile Bay you went under, not a river. :) You missed a great opportunity to use up a whole day if you didn't stop and visit the U.S.S. Alabama. :) Yes, I'm still kicking myself for that one. Even heard the story about how it was blown on it's ear from the hurrican, and was just recently been put back. At least I did get to see it coming out of the tunnel.:) And hey... where were you with the "avoid Hwy 98" when I was booking down it:W. Two harley riders don't know how close they came to having a real bad day when they cut in front of me, and I had to lock up my brakes:M. Next time I'm going to spend more time in Mobile and the surronding area (maybe a month.) That whole section from Bay St. Louis down to the Emeral coast sure was pretty and had a lot of very nice people. Opps best not to forget good cheap seafood also. Yep, I screwed up.

RE: Atwood Hydro flame furnace not igniting

You need at least 10.5 for furnace and HWH to work. I would clean each and every connection. Each one could be a small voltage drop. And hey, it's free.... PS, don't forget the ground to the board.

RE: Oh******!!

My 2c vote goes for the Hydroflush also. Leave the Hydroflush valve closed, open the black tank valve, have someone open the toilet valve, turn on the hose to the Hydroflush, when the level goes up in the black tank (helper shouting out the window) open the hydroflush valve. If nothing happens, open the Hydroflush valve, drain water out of the line, close Hydroflush valve and repeat till you break through. If after 15 minutes nothing happens, then maybe your tank valve is broken shut.

RE: St Louis to Destin Fl

Joey and I just did the same route about two months ago. A couple of good and bad things. Mobile has a tunnel you need to go through. We hit it on Sunday morning and the whole thing was a piece of cake. Down, under the river, and up in under 10 minutes. Now for the bad, If you don't mind back tracking I would take I10 to Hwy331 down to Hwy 98 then west. If you're planning on Topsail SP it's really not a big deal then. That whole Hwy 98 is bumper to bumper and stop lights west of Topsail SP.

RE: What's wrong with my RV

Do yourself a favor before spending a lot and take off one spark plug wire and see if it makes a difference and if it does then put that one back on and go to the next one until you find the one that is bad and then check and see if it;s the wire or the Plug when you find the one that doesn't make a differenc that will be the problem plug or wire, proble the wire if your engine doesn't use a lot of oil... Lots of Luck I hope this helps.. An old trick (which I forgot) but one that could very well fix the problem. Another old trick, spray carb cleaner (lightly) around anything that you think might have a vacuum leak. If the RPM's pick up, you found the leak.

RE: Opinions please

Came down to FL from MN with the same engine/tranny/frame as you, without a problem (was towing a lighter car four down though.) Looks like you're covered for brakes if you use your trailer. Otherwise, I would look into a braking system if you go four down. F53 brakes aren't my favorite thing in the world and being pushed by a toad just makes it worst. For piece of mind, I swapped out the tranny fluid before taking off (and a few other items.) Only thing I didn't get around to was greasing the slide pins in the calipers. They were done just 15K prior. I paid the price for that laziness. Front left started to seize up on me. No real damage was done, since I caught it in time. It was still a hard lesson learned that day. Have fun on your trip.

RE: What do you DO?

I do apologize for the way I stated a prior post. It was not very thoughtful on my part.

RE: A&E awning hanging up

... It didn't seem to be a hard fix but for the time it takes to haul the trailer to the dealer I'll let the Pro's fix it. Well you know, if the girls don't find you handsome, they should at least find you handy:B

RE: Sticking Black Tank Valve.

J&J, I live-in the rig, so my use of the valves is probably different than those who only use the equipment occasionally. You might be onto some thing with that statement. Right now we're snowbirding so the tank is in use non-stop. I've been using Lemon scented Pine-Sol to clean out the toilet after each dumping. Works like a million bucks. Toilet is clean, and the bathroom smells good, and no odors at all. I'm starting to wonder now if the Pine-Sol is acting as a grease/lubricant cutter on the valve gaskets since it's in the holding tank all the time. ON EDIT: Well that got me thinking and doing some searches and came across Kirk's Website on the topic. He states: Old wives tales and RV folk lore The RV world is just as filled with folk lore and myths as is any other part of society. Some of the most common ones relate to the care and use of waste tanks. It used to be quite common for folks to suggest the use of Pine Sol but in time it got around that such products would damage the seals in the system and it has since pretty much gone away. So I guess I'll stop doing the Pine-Sol. Real shame since it seemed to be the perfect answer.

RE: Flat Screen mounted on Doghouse

Don't know if this will help or not, but I booked marked this TV lift website with the idea maybe I might use it one day. I'm guessing it might be on the costly side. Hey SRT, nice to see the cold weather hasn't gotten to the whirl/clunk yet;)

RE: Is it over yet? Oil prices dropping like a rock.

Yep, only time can tell who's in the know;) Investing is like gambling, you win a few, and you lose a few. Those that lose usually leave the table. Most recent price of Crude oil: $56.41 / barrel.

RE: Sticking Black Tank Valve.

Did you use white grease? WD-40? I've had some luck with those. I did have to exercise the rod many time to get the grease in there. But if your seals are twisted or bad, I don't think grease will help much. Yeap done all of the above, but thanks for the input. Pretty sure the seals are still good by the feel of the pull/push. I'm pretty confident that the seals and slide plate just needs to be lubed well. Doing the rod and fogging just isn't cutting it at this point in time. BTW BillArf, thanks for your input also. I'm thinking I might slip a small "O" ring onto the self tapping screw to make sure I get a good seal. Never thought about loosening up the bolts and getting some lube from that angle. Seems like a good idea also. If the hole doesn't work I might try that next.

Sticking Black Tank Valve.

Well I’m getting the infamous sticking black tank valve issue. I’ve done the lubricating of the rod and also the shooting of lubricant up the pipe trying to get lube to the seals. I’ve replaced valves before, and know it’s a fairly simple and straight forward job. I really don’t want to swap this valve out because of the location GBM put it in. No real room for this body (and stiff fingers) to work with. So what I would like to do is try something I saw on an old thread but can not find now. A prior poster drilled a small hole an inch or so over the rod and shot in silicon. Afterwards they just put a self tapping screw in the hole to seal it up. It was suppose to have worked like a charm. Another poster even stated they used a zerk fitting instead, and pumped it full of grease. Again it solved the problem. Has anyone else done this? Sounds like it should work, I just don’t want to get myself into a position where I have to replace the valve because it now leaks, or is cracked after the modification. Thanks, John

RE: A&E awning hanging up

Well this is perfect timing for me. High winds are forecasted for today, so I went outside and rolled up the awning with the same results of the arms not lining up. Been an issue for awhile, I would just get the ladder out and pushed on them. Soooo.... To fix it right sounds like I need to go to the opposite corner (that I want the arms to move) and pull. I'm assuming that the outer part of the awning must be in a track which allows it to slide some. Is it really that simple, or is there some set screws or anything else that a person needs to loosen up first before the awning will move?

RE: What's wrong with my RV

you have a bad coil pack on one of the sparkplugs.very common problem for ford. On a 7.5??...:h On a 6.8 V-10 probably, but a 7.5 still has a distributor, doesn't it? (excuse the confusion, as I'm a career GM Master tech, not so hot on the FoMoCo products). I'm thinking EGR or even toasted ignition wires. You are right, that year is a V8 not V10. I think that came out in '99. I was wondering about the coil pack thing myself.

RE: Does the problems ever stop???

It is a pull valve. When the valve is pulled its like your pulling nothing we have it open now. So now it will not close. We have call the dealer an taking it in Monday. Thanks I'm guessing it's one of the rubber seals somehow folded over on itself or got twisted. Really not the MH's fault, but the maker/installer of the pull valve. You'll have to tell us what it turns out to be. It's very possible you're in the "shake out the bugs" mode. Good luck and have fun with your new camper.

RE: Does the problems ever stop???

My 2c's Appears to be a new rig, take it back to the dealer and have them fix it. You paid a lot of money for it, why put up with the hassle. I also second the thought on you have to be handy to own a MH. There are just too many small things that can (and do) go wrong with them. Sooner or later the warranty will be over, and then you're really on your own.

RE: Changing Brake Fliud on W22

Nice link on brake fluid. Note the wet boiling point number on the different fluids. Dot 5 has been stated several times not to be used in a Dot 3/4 system. It's also been noted that in certain conditions, up to 2% water can be found in brake fluid after as little as one year. Because of that, I pay special attention to the wet boiling point number compared to the cost of the product.

RE: Honda snowblowers

I no-longer will buy craftsman power equipment. Hard to go wrong with a Honda. Two stage is nice, but I survived with a single stage Toro CCR2000 for 20 years.
